PostSubject: The Poor Village (Mero's "home")    The Poor Village (Mero's "home") Icon_minitimeThu Jul 15, 2010 1:24 pm

I walked to where we lived, I'd call it a home but it was far from it. During the day it got fairly hot, at night, unbearably cold. We lived in a ratty tent, there was padding on the floor to sleep, a few chairs and a small table when ever we had food, which wasn't often. My dad worked as a farmer, harvesting crops and plowing empty fields... it didn't pay to well. But we made it through... barely. "Mom! Dad! Look what my friend Siri bought for us!" I called with excitement.
"Hi Honey, what is it?" My mom asked softly.
"What did we tell you!!??" My dad roared.
"Not to come back without food or money, but we have food!!"

I walked to the tent and greeted Mero's parents. I bowed. "Hello, my name is Siri." I smiled and held the baskets tightly under my arms. "I had the pleasure of meeting your daughter, Mero, today and thought I'd bring by some lunch."

I spat, "daughter... Mero! Go play with your monster."
"His name is Stitch." I reminded my dad.
"Go on honey, listen to your father." My mother said, a hint of fear and pain in her voice. I might be able to understand better if I could see...

"My name is Missu, and this is my husband Batyr" I told Siri. "Thank you so much for doing this. We can't really buy much food... usually it's just alcohol." I said glancing at my husband.

"It's no big deal." I smiled. "It's just a treat. Would you mind if I joined you for lunch? I'd much appreciate it, Miss. I've traveled a lot today."

"Oh that would be great!" I said smiling. After the food was distributed equally I picked up a bowl of soup, some pastries and some roasted meat bringing them to Mero. I found a single apple guessing it was for my daughter's pet and set it in her lap. I kissed her forehead and walked back over to our guest. I started with the soup and closed my eyes in delight. "How refreshing..." I crooned. I glanced back at my daughter who was feeding the apple to Stitch. "Thank you so much Siri."

"It's no big deal." I smiled and took a gulp of mango juice. Everything was delicious. "How's the food Mero?"

I turned and smiled my cheeks full of the tender, and delicious roast duck. I gave him a thumbs up and continued to slowly eat the food. Savoring every bit of it.
"She doesn't deserve that food. What's more worthless than a blind earthbender?" I growled.
"Come on honey she has some potential." I defended, even at the risk of getting hit. But we had a guest.

I felt very uncomfortable. I continued to smile and eat. "She's an earthbender?" That would explain why she got around so well.

My husband stuffed himself and continued to read the news. "Yes, she's an earthbender, we're fortunate of that too. She hit her head when she was five and that's how she became blind. Luckily she can see with vibrations in the earth."

I nodded. "Yea, I can understand that. Do you know of the famous Toph Bei Fong? She was one of the world's best earthbenders and she was blind. She could even bend metal! I didn't even know that was possible." I smiled. I glanced over at Mero.

"Really?! Wow, no I've never heard of her, we don't really get much news around here..."
I finished with the duck and moved onto the soup. It was really warm but some how refreshing in this hot climate. I pushed the tray of duck to Stitch, giving him the scraps and bones.

"Well, I think Mero could have a lot of potential." I said and turned to her. "Mero, have you ever practiced your earthbending skills?"

I shrugged, kinda shy about it. I turned away to continue eating.
"She is kind of a shy girl... You're our guest, tell us..." I paused and looked over at my husband, and corrected myself, " tell me about yourself."

I smiled weakly and began. "Well I was born in a small village on Ember Island. My father was Dirius and my mother was Zetta. I was born a firebender and my father was the proudest man in the nation. I immediately started training with specialists to become a skillful firebender. From years and years of training, I have now become one of the strongest benders my father and grandfather has seen." I smiled.
But there was more. I frowned. "When I became seventeen, my village was destroyed by the forces of the mythical Ahkira. My family was killed and ever since then, I have been searching for the Avatar to help him defeat Ahkira."

"Do you personally know the Avatar?" I asked.

I smiled at Mero. "No," I turned to Missu, "I do not know the Avatar, but I know of his plans to stop Ahkira and I plan to help him."

I snorted. "A firebender..." I growled under my breath.
"Batyr, really!? He's our guest! He brought us lunch with more food than you could provide in a year!! That war was settled decades ago! And peace was established by avatar Aang, and Fire Lord Zuko!
"Don't yell at me! I know who and what I don't like!!"
I sighed drowning out their arguing... again. I stood and mouthed to my mom what my plan was. She nodded while my dad continued yelling. She blew me a kiss and stared apologetically at Siri. I wrapped up my pastries (the only food I had left) and stood, motioning for Siri to follow.

"DAD!" I roared. I stomped forward and tripped. I turned and tried to feel what it was... "Mom!?.... mommy?" I shivered with pain. I kneeled in something wet... and warm. "Mommy?" I felt tears pour down my face.
"Mero... you weren't supposed to come home." I said.
"YOU KILLED HER!"
"No... just stabbed, she probably wishes she was dead. She needs to learn not to speak against me. She needs to know who's boss." I chuckled...
My mom whimpered and shivered. I sobbed in sorrow and anger. I stood shaking with rage. "This is the last time you'll hurt her. I know you've been hitting her--"
"Wow took you long enough."
"It's time I rid the world of a monster like you!"
"Try it you pathetic insect." I said pulling a knife from the table behind me.
"And that's another thing, parents are supposed to love you, you've brought me down my entire life and mommy followed because she feared you. Now its time you feared me!" My dad laughed.
I kicked sending a sheet of metal at him. It slammed into him, pinning his torso to the wall.

"You can bend metal!? That's not possible!"
"I just made it possible." I growled. I jabbed the metal plate sending a metal spike into his gut. I ripped off another metal sheet and hurled it. It hit him in the face, his entire body behind the sheet of metal. I jabbed a few more times in critical spots and I knew he was dead, because I couldn't "see" him move anymore...
I returned to my mom and cried. "Please mommy wake up!" I sobbed

I walked into Mero's home and saw Mero holding her mother crying. Her mother was bleeding. A lot. I dropped to my knees. My legs and feet were soaked in blood now. I kneeled next to her and looked at Mero, holding her face in my hands. "What happened?"

I looked down and put my hand on Missu's wound and warned her. "If you're awake, this is going to hurt a little." I heated my hand and burned the cut, cleaning it and clotting the blood. I looked at Mero. "I burned her wound so she won't keep bleeding but I need you to stay here. I'm going to go get help."
I stood and ran out of the house. I sprinted as fast as I could to the town.
